ARCIERO-MILLER RACING FINISHES STRONG IN SCORE INTERNATIONAL BAJA 1000
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico (Saturday, November 17, 2007) – Arciero-Miller Racing (AMR) wrapped up their 2007 race season in the No.82 Nitto Tire Trophy Tuck this week with a strong ninth-place finish in the 40th Anniversary running of the SCORE International Baja 1000.
Previous three time Baja 1000 Champion, Ryan Arciero along with navigator Benny Metcalf Jr. rocketed off the start line and soon settled into a smooth consistent pace. The duo found themselves running a great first half, suffering a small rear break problem and a exhaust fire. At 3:30 am, the No.82 truck pulled into the halfway point of the course and was handed over the Nitto truck to co-driver Bob Shepard and navigator Scott Maloney.
“Nitto Tires provided us with an amazing tire, probably the best tire that I have ever raced on,” said Benny Metcalf Jr., navigator for Arciero-Miller Racing.
At race mile 915, the No.82 truck was halted by an unexplained power steering problem. This caused the team to lose valuable time as it was down for four hours as Shepard and Maloney tried to fix the truck out on the race course. Shepard and Maloney got the truck up and running and continued to push forward. The No.82 Nitto Tire Trophy Truck crossed the finish line in Cabo San Lucas with a total race time of 32:06:08.
“This was one of the hardest races that I have ever competed in. We may not have won first-place, but everyone that crossed the finish line is victorious”, explained Ryan Arciero, president of Arciero-Miller Racing. “This race was more about battling Baja itself than with the other 400+ competitors in the race. Everyone on our team worked extremely hard to insure that our truck crossed the finish line and I couldn’t be more proud of them, especially Nitto Tires for providing us with an amazing product that inspires confidence and their support throughout the race season.”
Arciero-Miller Racing returns to the Foothill Ranch headquarters to begin preparation on the first ever purpose built Volkswagen Touareg TDI race vehicle which is scheduled for release in the 2008 Baja 1000. |
